Namaste, I'm Mati.

This is my house. I cook what we eat here in the valley: a local breakfast, dinner in the evening, and lunch too if you stay longer. If you want eggs or something non-veg, just tell me. Tea, chutneys, whatever you like.

Call me or send me a WhatsApp before you come.

A day at Mati's

15 and 16 October 2026, photographed by Leo and Sumit, the first guests to write about this place.

  1. The Darma Valley under grey clouds: terraced fields, a river and a road below snow-covered mountains

We arrive after the long drive up from Dharchula. Below the house: terraced fields, the river and the road we came on.

  2. A narrow footpath through dry autumn meadows towards snowy peaks

A footpath through the dry meadows, straight towards the snow.

  3. Snow peaks and glacier at dusk under a pale pink sky

The last light turns the snow pink.

  4. Mati cooking on the floor of her blue kitchen, with fresh greens, kettles and pots around her

Mati starts dinner in her blue kitchen. Fresh greens, the pressure cooker, the gas flame.

  5. Hands held out over a small fire in a metal bucket at night

Around a fire with trekkers from the other homestays in the village.

  6. Leo wrapped up to the eyes in a thick patterned blanket next to a blue window

Mornings are cold up here. Leo doesn't leave the blanket.

  7. Mati's house in the sun: white walls, a carved blue door and a red band under the roof

The sun reaches the house: white walls, the carved blue door, the red trim under the roof.

A day at Mati's in 48 seconds: sunset, dinner, rotis, first light on Panchachuli, the house. No sound.
